Transportation of Dangerous Goods or TDG is a program in place across Canada intended to help educate workers about dangerous goods in transport in order to protect public safety, and their safety. TDG legislation is intended to promote safe transportation by all means of transport, Road, Rail, Marine and Air. This course is for Road Transportation Only.

Upon completion of this course a TDG Certificate is printed and ready for the trainee’s employer to sign indicating their acknowledgement that the trainee has completed a review of the TDG training materials, as well as successfully completing the TDG test at the end of each of the course modules.
Who needs this TDG Course? This course is for people involved in GROUND Transportation, by road, in Canada. This applies to those who offer for transport, those who handle, and those who carry dangerous goods. This course includes all three (3) roles in the training materials. These are some examples of each of the roles:
- Offering for transport means to select a carrier, to prepare or allow someone else to prepare a shipment of dangerous goods for transport. Some job titles involved in the offer for transport role are a Shipper, Freight Forwarder, Dispatcher, Biller, or Shipping Clerk.
- Handling means the loading and unloading, packing or unpacking of dangerous goods as part of the transportation of dangerous goods and this includes the storage of dangerous goods during the transportation process. Some job titles involved in Handling dangerous goods are a Shipper, Receiver, Warehouse Personnel, Lift Truck Operator, and Loading Dock Handler.
- To Carry means the person who is in possession of the dangerous goods while they are in transport. Some job titles of a Carrier are, Driver, Trucker, and Courier.
What to Expect with Online TDG Training – this is a comprehensive training course with 6 modules and takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. You can start and stop and are able to resume from where you left off each time. There are descriptions, images, quiz questions and assignments built into the course to make it a more enjoyable learning experience.
Each of the six modules has a 10 question test. If you do not pass a test you can take a retest until you have answered all the questions correctly. This is part of your course and you do not pay extra to take these retests.
Once all six (6) module tests have been completed your TDG Certificate of Completion is displayed on the screen and you are able to print. A copy of the certificate is also emailed to you as a PDF file to store if you ever need to reprint it. The certificate is formatted according to the guidelines and ready for your employer to sign.
Road Transportation Only! The materials in this course are for people involved in Road transportation only. If you are involved in transportation by one of the other means, Rail, Marine and Air, please seek out professional training specific to that means of transport.
CLASS 1 Explosives – Class 6.2 Infectious Substances – Class 7 Radioactive Materials
The training for these classes of products is above and beyond the level provided in this online training course. DO NOT take this course when you are Offering, Handling or Transporting Dangerous Goods which are in any of these three classes – Class 1 Explosives, Class 6.2 Infectious Substances, and Class 7 Radioactive Materials.
