Wanna Make A Difference to a Million People?

It is our nature to want to make a difference. Can you imagine being part of something that makes a difference to a MILLION people? This is our vision of what we want to achieve. And we are opening up an opportunity for you to be part of this journey. Here is our story about how this idea came to be, how far we have come, and where we are headed.

In March of 2005 a client was having a problem keeping track of the training records for 1400 healthcare workers because they had outgrown the spreadsheet capabilities. Soon after that, a client at a University was looking for an online testing tool to allow for online completion of test questions and the ability to mark the tests online – a paperless testing option with minimal delay between test completion and notification of the results. And the third spark happened when an Association client who wanted to be a pioneer in their area by offering on online Sales Certification program which combined the display of online training materials with an online testing and instant notification of the results.

This led to the creation of www.TrainingToDo.com which was created as a large scale training engine now also know as a Learning Management System. The idea was to allow many users to share the same system for delivering training materials and testing. At the time the creation of this scale of application was easily 6 months worth of effort and in excess of $50,000. Our goal was to get to where we could offer affordable course setups of under $10,000 and a minimal cost for the technology to deliver the materials and complete the test.

In November of 2006 an organization looked to us to use this system to deliver safety training for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training for about 600 people which led to the creation of www.SafeAndCertified.com as a provider of online safety training and testing. The business was incorporated in September of 2008 under the name SafeAndCertified.com Inc.

As the number of people using the system increased and new courses were added the ideas began to evolve and the technology began to mature. What has started out as a way to help a number of different groups increase the access to training and testing now seemed to have so much more potential. And this led to our realization that we had the potential to make a difference in a lot of people’s lives. We had already impacted hundreds and thousands of people. Was it possible to impact a hundred thousand people? What about a million people? Wouldn’t that be amazing to do something that benefited a million people!

This brings us up to today. We are opening up the opportunity for people to share their story on how our training delivery system has made a difference in their lives and have that shared on our web sites. You will see something we call a “Difference Meter” which is tracking our progress towards making a difference in people’s lives. Each time another person receives a training course access code the counter moves forward. Follow us as we move towards the one million mark. We have already surpassed the 100, 1,000 and 10,000 difference milestones and are looking forward to a 100,000 difference celebration.

If you have received an access code or manage people in the system, Go on The Record, and record your comment on how this online training has made a difference to you. Share your comments with us and have them included as people contribute and share their experience with others. There are times when it seems like this will take forever. And then one person shares their experience with another person and that leads to a new course being added and the potential for many more people to have a difference in their lives. What started out as a local service for people in Winnipeg Manitoba, is now being used in both Canada and the USA. Do you know someone in another country, perhaps in another language who has training needs? What would it take to make this work in a different situation?

Our story has grown to much more than just the technology. It is much more about people in different places connecting and sharing ideas about how we can use this technology to make a difference for other people. When you take someone from a place where they did not know, to a new place where they do know, we are making a difference.
